RSICC CODE PACKAGE PSR-484

1. NAME AND TITLE

SARA4.16: System Analysis and Risk Assessment System.

2. CONTRIBUTORS

Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, Idaho Falls, Idaho, through the Energy Science and Technology Software Center, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER

MODULA-2; IBM PC (P00484IBMPC00)

Previous Versions Available: 4.0, 4.15

4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED

SARA4.16 is a program that allows the user to review the results of a Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) and to perform limited sensitivity analysis on these results. This tool is intended to be used by a less technical oriented user and does not require the level of understanding of PRA concepts required by a full PRA analysis tool. With this program a user can review the information generated by a PRA analyst and compare the results to those generated by making limited modifications to the data in the PRA. Also included in this program is the ability to graphically display the information stored in the database. This information includes event trees, fault trees, P&IDs and uncertainty distributions. SARA 4.16 is incorporated in the SAPHIRE 5.0 code package.

5. METHOD OF SOLUTION

SARA 4.16 is written entirely in MODULA-2 and uses an integrated commercial graphics package to display fault trees and event trees. For quantification and sensitivity analysis, the program uses standard methods to propagate the failure information through the cut sets.

6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS

The maximum number of basic events, fault trees, event trees, accident sequences, and P&ID's is 10000.

7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

SARA4.16 running times are a function of the problem to be solved and the actions performed by the user.

8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

IBM-PC/XT/AT/PS-2 or 100 percent compatible computer running DOS 5.0. The PC must have a 640K of RAM, an EGA/VGA compatible monitor and display adaptor, and a hard disk with at least 10 megabytes of free space. A numeric math co-processor and a mouse are highly recommended.

9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

The software was developed under DOS 5.0 and can be run on a Pentium under Windows 98.
