1. NAME AND TITLE
ETHEL: Code System for Generating Cross Sections for PSR-128/THERMOS.
2. CONTRIBUTOR
Ente Nazionale per l'Energia Elettrica - Centro Di Ricerca Termica e Nucleare (ENEL-CRTN)
in Milano, Italy, through the OECD NEA Data Bank, Gif-sur-Yvette, France.
3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER
Fortran IV; IBM 360/370.
4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED
ETHEL generates the cross section library for THERMOS. The scattering model can be chosen
among different Nelkin-type models, the Wigner-Wilkin model, and the Brown-St. John model.
5. METHOD OF SOLUTION
The work started from EGERIA with the aim of including the Koppel-Young's model in order to
study thermalization problems in hydrogeneous media. The inclusion was realized by using the code
SCAM and rewriting it in Fortran. Much work was done to eliminate errors. This improved version
of EGERIA was named ETHEL. ETHEL can also consider the calculus of the matrices relating to
the isotropic scattering with a correction of transport type and generate a new library tape or update
an old one.
6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS
None noted.
7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME
The test case included in the package ran in 40 seconds of CPU time on the IBM 3081K.
8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
On an IBM 3081K, 192 K bytes of main storage were required.
9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
A Fortran IV compiler is required.

11. CONTENTS OF CODE PACKAGE
Included are the referenced document and one (1.2MB) DOS diskette which contains the source
code and test case input.
12. DATE OF ABSTRACT
