1. NAME AND TITLE
MCVIEW: View Factor Calculation for Three-Dimensional Geometries.
2. CONTRIBUTOR
Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, through the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency Data Bank,
Gif-sur-Yvette, France.
3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER
Fortran 77 and Assembler Language; IBM 3090.
4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED
MCVIEW calculates the radiation geometric view factor between surfaces for three dimensional
geometries with and without interposed third surface obstructions. It was developed to calculate view
factors for input data to heat transfer analysis programs such as SCA-03/TRUMP, SCA-01/HEATING-5 and PSR-199/HEATING-6.
5. METHOD OF SOLUTION
MCVIEW analyzes view factors for thermal radiation calculation using the Monte Carlo method.
6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS
None noted.
7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME
The run time was 10 seconds for a case in which emission of particles was 20000 on the FACOM
M-380. The test case included in this package ran in less than 5 minutes of CPU time on the IBM
3090.
8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
The code was developed on the FACOM M-780 and converted to run on the IBM 3090 at
NEADB. The test case included in this package required 760 K bytes of main storage on the IBM.
9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
A Fortran 77 compiler and assembler are required. The IBM 3090 operating system is MVS/XA.
