1. NAME AND TITLE
METD: Computer Code Systems for Use with Meteorological Data.
2. CONTRIBUTOR
U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C.
3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER
Fortran IV, IBM 3033; Fortran 77, Data General MV/8000.
4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED
The staff of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission uses the computer codes in this collection to
examine, assess, and utilize the hourly values of meteorological data which are received on magnetic
tapes in a specified format.
5. METHOD OF SOLUTION
The function of each of the programs in the METD collection is described here. The DATE
program checks for correct sequential ordering of the data by year, Julian day and hour. Program
JFREQ is used to calculate a joint frequency distribution of wind speed, wind direction and
atmospheric stability that can be used in the NRC meteorological computer programs CCC-316/XOQDOQ and CCC-445/PAVAN for routine and accidental release meteorological analyses,
respectively. The MISS program calculates missing data statistics. PRECP calculates precipitation
statistics. PRINT creates a listing of the data. Program QA checks data set for invalid data values.
STABQ calculates atmospheric stability statistics. Program TDP calculates temperature and dew point
statistics.
6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS
On the DG MV/8000, the program QA should be compiled with the SAVEVARS switch.
7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME
Each of the sample problems compiled and executed on the IBM 3033 computer in less than 5 CPU
seconds, 1000 I/O's and 100 K in the execute step.
8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
These programs were developed on an IBM 370 computer and were tested by RSIC on an IBM
3033 computer. They were also revised to run on a Data General MV/8000 using the Fortran 77
compiler.
9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
RSIC executed the programs using a Fortran H extended enhanced compiler and an OS/VS
assembler for the IBM 3033 version. For the DG MV/8000, the Fortran 77 compiler was used.
