RSIC CODE PACKAGE PSR-183

1. NAME AND TITLE

FOURACES: Code System for Producing Spectrum Weighted, Group Averaged Cross Sections from ENDF/B, KEDAK, or UK Libraries.

2. CONTRIBUTOR

Comitato Nazionale per l'Energia Nucleare, Centro Studi E Richerche, Bologna, Italy.

3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER

Fortran IV and Assembler; IBM 360/75, 370/168, 3033.

4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED

FOURACES produces spectrum weighted, group-averaged nuclear constants for reactor calculations.

5. METHOD OF SOLUTION

Data contained in the ENDF/B, KEDAK, or UK libraries is used as basic input. The weighting function is arbitrary and can be specified by the user. Included in the code is a section devoted to the generation of resonant, Doppler-broadened cross sections in the framework of single or multi-level Breit-Wigner, Adler-Adler or Reich Moore formalisms.

6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS

FOURACES can treat up to 256 energy groups.

7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

a. Sample problems in referenced document:

CPU time on an IBM 360/75 operating under OS

38 sec for 26 groups, 12C and 235U, UKNDL

31 sec for 99 groups, ENDF/B, with Doppler broadening

2 min 43 sec for 26 groups, 235U, KEDAK.

b. Sample problem on tape:

CPU time on an IBM 3033 operating under MVS was 2 min 54 sec.

8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

FOURACES is operable on IBM 360/75, 370/168 or 3033 computers. It requires 276 K to compile on an IBM 3033.

9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

Fortran H and Assembler compilers are required. Access to ENDF/B, KEDAK or UKNDL data files is required.
