RSIC COMPUTER CODE PSR-071

1. NAME AND TITLE

SPECTRANS-2: Neutron Spectrum Library Generation.

AUXILIARY ROUTINE

DPP: Draws coordinate systems.

2. CONTRIBUTOR

Health Physics Department, Central Research Institute for Physics, Budapest, Hungary.

3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER

ICL-1900 Fortran; ICL-1900.

4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED

SPECTRANS-2 makes a neutron spectrum library by standardizing neutron spectra in 48 predetermined energy intervals independently from the original interval distribution. It also calculates kerma and dose-equivalent spectra as well as dose fractions and average energy.

5. METHOD OF SOLUTION

SPECTRANS-2 creates a standardized spectrum from the input spectrum. This is done by Lagrange and linear interpolation. In each standardized energy interval the program determines both interpolations, compares the results, and the result that approximates the input function better in the given interval is used for further calculation.

After each computation the spectra are drawn by an off-line plotter. The original and standardized spectra as well as the calculated data are available from the spectrum library.

6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS

The dimension of the input spectra is limited by 200 points but it can be extended if required. The conversion factors to kerma and dose-equivalent are placed in a DATA subroutine and the standardized energy intervals are there, too. Therefore, they are changeable.

7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

The longest running time for each operation is about 3 minutes with the following conditions: the library tape consists of no more than 100 spectra; the input points of a spectrum are below 100.

8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

SPECTRANS-2 is operable on the ICL-1900 computer and requires 32 K of memory. Three tape units, standard I/O devices, and a graph plotter are used. With the exception of the modes DOSEVA and PLOT, it is operable without a plotter.

9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

A Fortran IV compiler can be used if the subroutine DPP is placed among the standard library routines.
