RSIC COMPUTER CODE PSR-039

1. NAME AND TITLE

DEM-REFUM-BROAD: Monte Carlo Codes for Calculating Efficiencies and Response Functions of NaI(Tl) Crystals for Thick Disk Gamma-Ray Sources.

2. CONTRIBUTOR

Department of Nuclear Engineering, Kyoto University, Japan.

3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER

Fortran IV; FACOM-M 180, FACOM 230/75.

4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED

DEM-REFUM-BROAD calculates the detection efficiency for a thick disk source on the extended axis of a 3" dia. x 3" NaI(Tl) crystal, as well as the response function, the photofraction, the total and peak efficiencies of NaI(Tl) crystals. It can also calculate the response function of Ge(Li) detectors.

5. METHOD OF SOLUTION

DEM-REFUM-BROAD uses analytical and Monte Carlo calculations to obtain the response functions, total and peak efficiencies and photofractions without Gaussian broadening, both for NaI(Tl) and Ge(Li) detectors.

6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS

None noted.

7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

No study has been made by RSIC of typical running times for DEM-REFUM-BROAD.

8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

DEM-REFUM-BROAD is operable on the FACOM-M 180 or the FACOM 230/75 computers.

9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

A Fortran IV compiler is required.
