RSIC COMPUTER CODE PSR-035

1. NAME AND TITLE

EDITOR: Alters Mode, Copies, Merges, Punches, Edits, or Adds to ENDF/B-Formatted Data on Tapes or Cards.

EDITOR is also packaged in the Argonne Code Center under Abstract #502.

2. CONTRIBUTOR

Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER

Fortran IV; IBM 360 (A), CDC 6600 (B).

4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED

EDITOR is a cross section handling code for use with the Evaluated Nuclear Data Files (ENDF). It produces readable listings of the contents of ENDF/B nuclear data cross section tapes. It also allows copying, altering mode, merging and punching of the data on one or more ENDF/B tapes.

5. METHOD OF SOLUTION

EDITOR will edit and print, in a legible form, information from ENDF/B formatted data. In addition, it will alter the mode (BCD or binary) of a data set, copy or punch any portion or all of the data, merge several data sets, or add additional data to an existing data set. Input may be one or more magnetic tapes, punched cards, or a printed edit of the data. It processes materials, files (in the ENDF/B sense) or sections (reaction types) according to input instructions.

6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS

A maximum of 50 materials may be handled in one batch, where a batch is a group of associated input instructions. A maximum of 5 files per material and 15 sections per file may be requested in each batch. Files 1 to 5, 7, 12 to 15, and 23 will be processed by the program. Other files will be ignored.

7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

EDITOR takes 30 seconds on the IBM 360/91 computer to edit one complete ENDF/B material which has 10,000 BCD card images. The sample problem compiles and executes in less than 8 minutes.

8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

EDITOR was designed for the IBM 360/75/91 computers using approximately 300 K bytes of core space. It is also operable on the CDC 6600/7600 computers.

Punch and printer capability must be available.

9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

A Fortran IV compiler is required. EDITOR may be run in the 360/75/91 Fortran IV operating system.
