RSIC DATA LIBRARY DLC-092

1. NAME AND TITLE OF DATA LIBRARY

GICX40: Coupled 42-Neutron, 21-Gamma-Ray Group Cross Sections for 40 Elements in Group Independent Form for Fusion Reactor Calculations.

2. NAME AND TITLE OF DATA RETRIEVAL PROGRAMS

GICX40 SET: Cross Section Editing Program.

3. CONTRIBUTOR

Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, Tokyo, Japan.

4. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND INFORMATION

Two sets of libraries, GICX40 and GICX40V4, for 40 nuclides of interest in fusion reactor nuclear design, were developed. They are extensively used for neutronics calculations related to fusion reactors in JAERI and elsewhere in Japan. Both sets have the same 42-neutron, 21-gamma-ray energy group structure with up to P5 Legendre scattering terms. Modifications of the multigroup cross section processing codes were made in the course of development of the cross section sets.

5. APPLICATION OF THE DATA

The GICX40 Set is used in coupled neutron and gamma-ray transport calculations and employing ANISN in group independent option (ID2 = 1).

6. SOURCE AND SCOPE OF DATA

There are 40 nuclides of interest in fusion reactor nuclear designs. Not only the candidate nuclides in the materials of blanket, shield, magnet, etc., of pure fusion reactors but also 5 fissile nuclides (232Th, 235U, 238U, 237Np, and 239Pu) are included to enable the evaluations of fusion-fission hybrid reactors. The nuclides are:

6Li, 7Li, 12C, 16O, 4He, Nb, Mo, Cr, Ni, Fe, 1H, 2H, 3He, 9Be, 10B, 14N, 27Al, V, Cu, Pb, 232Th, 235U, 239Pu, 237Np, Mg, K, Ca, 11B, Cl, Na, Cd, Ta, 182W, 183W, 184W, 186W, F, 238U, Si, Ti.

7. DISCUSSION OF THE DATA RETRIEVAL PROGRAM

GICX40 Set can be readily used as the input to ANISN in group independent option (ID2 = 1) just by converting the format from BCD to binary form. To use GICX40 Set in DOT-3.5 or MORSE, some rearrangement of data is required.

8. DATA FORMAT AND COMPUTER

EBCDIC card images; IBM 360/370, FACOM 230/75.

9. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

GICX40 can readily be used in ANISN just by BCD to binary conversion.
