4. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND INFORMATION
FLUNG (Fusion Library for Unshielded Neutron, Gamma-Ray Transport) is a 35-neutron, 21-gamma ray, P3 cross section library for 63 nuclides. It was derived from the VITAMIN-C general
purpose fine group library and is useful for the neutronic analysis of fusion reactors and other
applications. The fine energy group structure was adopted to accurately describe resonance data and
high energy (10.0-17.3 MeV) reactions. However, the fine group structure is not readily adaptable
to most radiation transport calculations because of limitations imposed on computer core storage and
running time by the code itself, geometry descriptions, angular quadrature, scattering cross section
expansions, and the multigroup description of the cross sections. Therefore, the broad group library
was created for the neutronic analysis of fusion reactors.
5. APPLICATION OF THE DATA
The 35-neutron, 21-gamma ray energy group cross section library was collapsed from the
VITAMIN C data set using the AMPX. The data were prepared in ANISN "binary" format. The
cross section data are for a P3 Legendre polynomial expansion of the scattering cross sections.
