4. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND INFORMATION

Since its publication in March, 1972, in the note CEA N 1526, the library of nuclear data relating to fission products has been widely used. Translated into the format ENDF/BIII and coupled with the calculation codes, it has exhibited sufficient interest in studies on fission products and the residual power of fuels in relation to other existing libraries.

Certain inadequacies of the format and of the new needs have led to extensions in the form and in the content of the library. A new version has been developed which permits more rapid updating and which contains, aside from revised data of all the quantities of the preceding version, with the exception of the beta spectra, the limits of error for all these qualities to the extent that they are known.

5. APPLICATION OF THE DATA

For each isotope produced from fission, the library includes: the radioactive half-life, the decay energies corresponding to the transitions denoted by symbols in figures 1-3, the energies and intensities of the beta+ and beta-, and the energies and intensities of the gamma rays.

6. SOURCE AND SCOPE OF DATA

In a general way, the data of the preceding version have been taken into the "Nuclear Data Sheet." Nevertheless, for beta decay energies towards a fundamental level, the "1971 Atomic Mass Evaluation" of WAPSTRA has been used and, in some cases, more recent references. For a small number of isotopes, the values from the isotope table of Lederer were used.
