ESG, a multigroup library, is based upon space-energy self-shielding and collapse of the

ESG is a problem dependent self-shielded cross-section library in AMPX format. Because of the
way the input was specified, there is a set of cross sections for each nuclide in the following mixtures:
inner driver, outer driver, radial blanket, control channel, reflector, reactor vessel, sodium pool,
graphite, and concrete.
6. SOURCE AND SCOPE OF DATA
SPHINX was used to generate self-shielding factors for the nine mixtures. The self-shielding factors were used to generate a problem-dependent self-shielded cross-section library in AMPX format. XSDRNPM was then used to do the one-dimensional transport calculation of the reference reactor. Cross sections were collapsed to the 56-group structure by using "region" weighting which produces one set of cross sections for a nuclide but weighted over a composite spectrum made up of all spectra from zones where the nuclide is present. Because of the way the input was specified, there is a set of cross sections for each nuclide in the nine mixtures listed in APPLICATION OF THE DATA, above.
