4. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND INFORMATION
The data were obtained during the course of a program to measure the total energy-release rates
following shutdown of a uranium-fueled reactor. They are the intermediate data, integrated and
summed together to get the information desired by the funding agent, NRC. The spectral data are
considered to be a bonus coming from the method chosen to get the desired results. They are the
original set of data and do not supersede any other data set.
5. APPLICATION OF THE DATA
The data are believed to represent the results of a benchmark experiment and will be used to
compare with the output of summation calculation codes, e.g., ORIGEN. The total energy-release rate
was obtained by measuring separately the energy-release rates for each component, one set of data for
gamma energy-release using a gamma-ray detector and another set for beta decay energy-release using
a beta-ray detector. The authors believe that the most important use of the data in the report is to
guide calculational efforts to a point where they can be used to correctly compute the fission-product
decay heat for any operation history.
6. SOURCE AND SCOPE OF DATA
The data are from an experiment and were not generated by another computer code. The energy
group structures and time (following fission) groups were chosen for experimental reasons. The data
are given as spectral distributions, differential cross-section values, and beta-ray energy intervals.
Counting time intervals range from 1 second for times-after-fission < 6 sec to 4000 sec for times-after-fission ~ 104 sec.
7. DISCUSSION OF THE DATA RETRIEVAL PROGRAM
The major use for the data retrieval programs is to indicate the format used to retrieve the data.

BCD card images; IBM 360 or PDP-10.
9. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME
Less than 10 sec on the IBM 360.
