4. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND INFORMATION

The DLC-12/POPLIB Library was compiled by W. E. Ford, III, and others at the Computing Technology Center in conjunction with the development of the PSR-11/POPOP4 code. POPOP4 converts such data into multigroup transfer cross sections for use in transport codes.

5. APPLICATION OF THE DATA

POPLIB may be used with PSR-11/POPOP4 to prepare neutron to gamma-ray group transfer matrices. These can then be merged with multigroup neutron cross section sets (from GAM-II, CCC-123/XSDRN, PSR-13/SUPERTOG, etc.) and multigroup gamma-ray cross section sets (from MUG, PSR-86/GAMLEG, etc.) to give a cross section set which can be used for coupled neutron and secondary gamma-ray calculations in multigroup transport codes such as CCC-82/ANISN-CEA, CCC-89/DOT, CCC-42/DTF-IV, and CCC-127/MORSE.

6. SOURCE AND SCOPE OF DATA

The POPLIB Library data is either: 1) the intensities of secondary gamma rays resulting from neutron-nucleus interactions (yields), or 2) the secondary gamma-ray production cross sections for neutron-nucleus interactions (cross sections).

The Library was compiled from the literature and from private files of contributors. No claim is made for the validity of the data.

The initial POPLIB Library contains data for:

H, D, Li, Be, ¹⁰B, C, N, O, F, Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, S, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Zr, Nb, Mo, Cd, Ba, Eu, Gd, Ta, W, Hg, Pb, ²³⁵U, ²³⁸U, Np.

7. DISCUSSION OF THE DATA RETRIEVAL PROGRAM

The retrieval program is referred to as the POPOP4 Library TAPEMAKER. This program will read a BCD formatted PSR-11/POPOP4 library tape and make a binary POPOP4 library tape for use with PSR-11/POPOP4. In addition, the program can also: a) make or update a BCD formatted library tape, b) make or update a binary library tape for use with PSR-11/POPOP4, c) list any or all the data sets on a library tape, and d) punch any or all of the data sets on a library tape in the format for use with PSR-11/POPOP4. (This capability is usually used to retrieve data sets in order to modify the data prior to use with PSR-11/P0POP4.)

9. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

The DLC-12/POPOP4 Library TAPEMAKER runs in less than two minutes on the IBM 360/65 computer.
