4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED
HABIT 1.1 is a suite of computer codes designed for evaluating control room habitability in the event of an accidental release of toxic chemicals or radioactive materials. EXTRAN 1.2, CHEM, TACT5, FPFP_2, and CONHAB are included in the system. HABIT was used in the verification and validation of RADTRAD, which NRC now uses to assess radiation exposure, typically in the control room, as well as site boundary doses, and to estimate dose attenuation due to modification of a facility or accident sequence. RADTRAD does not assess chemical exposure, so HABIT is retained in the RSICC collection for this purpose. RADTRAD is available from Alion Science http://radtrad.com/.
5. METHOD OF SOLUTION
Given information about the design of a nuclear power plant, a scenario for the release of toxic chemicals or radionuclides, and information about the air flows and protection systems of the control room, HABIT can be used to estimate the chemical exposure or radiological dose to control room personnel.

8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
IBM PC or compatible, [with 32 math coprocessor (recommended)], 5.2 Mbytes to install HABIT run files, 1.5 Mbytes to install HABIT source files, 7.0 Mbytes to install HABIT Demo files.
9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
It runs on IBM PC or compatible under DOS 5.0 or higher and can be run in a DOS window of Windows95/2000/XP. The computational codes were compiled with Microsoft PowerStation V 1.0a compiler (NUREG/CR‑6210 S1 page 1.7), and the user interface was compiled with Microsoft VisualBasic for DOS.
Under Windows2000, one must use the full-screen command.com DOS window C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\COMMAND.COM) to create the DOS command prompt for HABIT. The CMD.EXE DOS window will not function correctly under Windows 2000.
