RSIC CODE PACKAGE CCC-551

1. NAME AND TITLE

AIRDOS-PC: Clean Air Act Compliance Software for Personal Computers.

AUXILIARY ROUTINES

GETWIND: Converts user-supplied wind frequency data, in Stability Array (STAR) format, into AIRDOS-PC format.

COLORS: Changes the colors used in the program.

2. CONTRIBUTOR

EPA Office of Radiation Programs, Las Vegas Facility, Nevada.

3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER

Fortran 77, C; MS-DOS personal computers.

4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED

AIRDOS-PC, Version 3.0, is designed to calculate the effective dose equivalent to maximally exposed individuals at Department of Energy facilities, as required by 40 CFR 61.93(a), and to prepare a two-page compliance report suitable for submission to EPA. AIRDOS-PC estimates dose using the same methodology as The Clean Air Act Assessment Package-1988 (CAP-88), which is used by EPA for assessment of dose and risk from radionuclide emissions to air.

5. METHOD OF SOLUTION

AIRDOS-PC, like CAP-88, implements a long-term average Gaussian plume model. The associated terrestrial model for deposition is based on NRC Regulatory Guide 1.109. The 50-year effective dose equivalent factors are calculated using weighting factors from ICRP-26.

6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS

Dose factors are provided for 41 radionuclides and are limited to 20 downwind distances for each of 16 compass directions. The User's Guide includes additional information on limitations.

7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

A complete assessment requires approximately 5 to 10 minutes of computer time, depending on the number of distances and radionuclides.

8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

IBM PC, XT, AT or compatible personal computer

640 kilobytes RAM (500 K free)

Parallel communications for a printer

Intel math coprocessor chip compatible with the system

Two 5¼-in. floppy drives or hard disk storage system

Color or monochrome monitor

Any compatible printer.

9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

The Microsoft C Version 4.0 and IBM Professional Fortran (PROFORT) Version 1.0 compilers, Microsoft Overlay Linker Version 3.51, and C Utility Library Version 3.0 are required to create the executables. AIRDOS-PC runs under DOS version 2.0 or higher.

10. REFERENCE

"User's Guide for AIRDOS-PC, Version 3.0," EPA 520/6-89-035 (December 1989).

11. CONTENTS OF CODE PACKAGE

Included are the referenced document and 4 DS/DD 5.25-in. (360 K) diskettes which include executables, data, sample problem input, source files and an information file. The entire package is alternately available on one DS/HD diskette.

12. DATE OF ABSTRACT

June 1990.
