1. NAME AND TITLE
XSHLD: Diagnostic X-Ray Shielding Calculation.
2. CONTRIBUTOR
John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital, Little Rock, Arkansas
3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER
BASIC; Kaypro II (CP/M), TRS-80 M4 (CP/M and TRSDOS), IBM PC (A).
4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED
XSHLD will calculate the primary and/or secondary leakage/scatter barrier requirements for
diagnostic radiographic and/or fluorescent x-ray units operating at 50, 70, 100, 125, and 150 kVp.
Requirements are given for Pb shielding and for gypsum, plate glass, brick, concrete, and concrete
block.
5. METHOD OF SOLUTION
XSHLD uses the methodology described by McGuire (see References).
6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS
None noted.
7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME
XSHLD is interactive and takes several minutes.
8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
Kaypro II and compatible CP/M computers, TRS-80 Model 4, or IBM PC and compatibles.
9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
The code was written in BASIC-80 for operating under Kaypro CP/M. It was tested under
Montezuma Micro CP/M and TRSDOS (TRS-80 Model 4) and PC-DOS (IBM PC).
