RSIC CODE PACKAGE CCC-460

1. NAME AND TITLE

SPOT1: Shielding Problem Code Based on Methods of Ono and Tsuruo.

2. CONTRIBUTOR

Gilbert Associates, Inc., Reading, Pennsylvania.

3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER

Fortran IV and Assembler; IBM 3033.

4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED

SPOT1 calculates the dose rate in mren/hr of the thickness of the shield. If neither dose rate or thickness shield input is supplied the dose rate is calculated with a shield thickness of zero.

5. METHOD OF SOLUTION

SPOT1 approximates the cylindrical source by a segment of an annulus. The section of the radius is selected so the cross sectional area of the cylinder is preserved by the annular segment. The buildup factor in the form of Taylor coefficients was used to give the total flux. Flux to dose conversion factors were then used to yield the dose rate in mrem/hr.

6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS

Taylor coefficients and buildup factor data are supplied for five materials: water, lead, iron, uranium, and concrete.

The maximum number of energy groups is 14.

7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

The three sample problems executed in less than .2 seconds on the IBM 3033.

8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

SPOT1 is operable on the IBM 3033. Less than 400 K of core storage is required.

9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

A Fortran Q compiler is required. An assembler compiler is required to assemble the subroutine which requests the date.

10. REFERENCE

J. L. Kamphouse, "SPOT1 Users Manual,"An informal unpublished document. (Revised October 16, 1980).

11. CONTENTS OF CODE PACKAGE

Included are the referenced document and one (1.2MB) DOS diskette which contains the source codes and sample problem input and output.

12. DATE OF ABSTRACT

August 1984.

KEYWORDS: GAMMA-RAY; KERNEL; CYLINDRICAL GEOMETRY
