1. NAME AND TITLE
DEIS: Draft Environmental Impact Statement on Licensing Requirements for Land Disposal of Radioactive Waste.
2. CONTRIBUTOR
Office of Nuclear Safety and Safeguards, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C.
3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER
Fortran IV; CDC-6600 (C00455C660000).
4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED
DEIS calculates the impact measures associated with the management of low-level radioactive waste. Three phases of waste management are considered: waste processing, transportation, and disposal.
5. METHOD OF SOLUTION
The impact measures are calculated utilizing information on waste characteristic, data and assumptions on disposal technologies and disposal site environment, and impact calculation methodologies. Five quantifiable impact measures have been selected for calculation: dose to members of the public, occupational exposures, costs, energy use, and land use.
6. RESTRICTIONS AND LIMITATIONS
None noted.
7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME
No study has been made by RSIC of typical running times for DEIS.
8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
DEIS is operable on the CDC-6600 computer.
9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
A Fortran IV compiler is usually required.
