1. NAME AND TITLE
QAD-UE: A Revised Numerical Integration Option for Gamma-Ray Volume Source Problems
in the QAD-CG Point Kernel Shielding Code.
This version of QAD is based on CCC-307/QAD-CG and contains all the options and features of
QAD-CG.
2. CONTRIBUTOR
United Engineers and Constructors Inc., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER
Fortran IV; Honeywell 66/60.
4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED
QAD-UE is a point-kernel code for calculating fast-neutron and gamma-ray penetration through
various shield configurations defined by combinatorial geometry specifications. This version of QAD
incorporates a revised gamma-ray point kernel source volume integration option to reduce user setup
time and provide increased computational efficiency for large volume source problems.
5. METHOD OF SOLUTION
QAD-UE uses a point kernel ray-tracing technique for gamma-ray calculations and either a
modified Albert-Welton kernel or kernels obtained from the moments method solution of the
Boltzmann equation for neutron penetration calculation. The new technique performs a coupled ray
angular integration at the detector position as opposed to an integration over the source volume.
6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS
None noted.
7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME
No study has been made by RSIC of typical running times for QAD-UE.
8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
QAD-UE is operable on the Honeywell 66/60 computer.
9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
The operating system for the Honeywell is GCOS3. A Fortran IV compiler is required.
