WinZip 8.0 or newer can exapnd the distribution file.
If you plan to compile the source files in a Windows Cygwin environment, 
use Cygwin tar to extract the distribution rather than WinZIP.

The package is transmitted on CD in a GNU compressed Unix tar file. The 
tar file contains source files, test cases, and scripts.

Fortran 90 and C compilers are required. The g95 and gcc compilers
can be used. GNU Autoconf procedure is used to generate Makefiles 
for creating executables. 

PUFF IV has been compiled and run on these systems:
Personal Computer under WindowsXP w/Cygwin and g95 - Stable Version 0.91 or up
AMD Opteron running RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 with G95 - Stable Version 0.91 or up
AMD Opteron running RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 with Intel compiler.
AMD Opteron running RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 with Portland Group, Inc. 
IBM AIX Powerpc with XLF90 compiler
