MCNP{TM} and DANTSYS{TM} Class Schedule 1997

The Los Alamos National Laboratory Transport Methods Group (XTM) is committed to offering training classes that promote the efficient and knowledgeable use of its LARAMIE{TM} codes. All classes include "hands-on'' computer experience, allowing students to learn interactively. Classes are taught by the members of the code teams. Students have access to the vast experience and knowledge of our staff in the areas of transport methods research, production code and data library development, and various practical applications. MCNP developers and users are accessible through the Internet. All classes are taught in an unclassified area at Los Alamos National Laboratory, unless otherwise noted.

1997 Date Course Description
February 25-28 Introduction to MCNP Class for new or novice users of MCNP.

Topics: basic geometry, source definition, tallies, data, variance reduction, criticality, and plotting of geometry and tally results.

March 18-19 Variance Reduction Introductory class experience is required.

Theory and application of variance reduction techniques in detail, taught by Tom Booth.

March 20-21 What's New in 4B For the experienced MCNP user.

The new features in MCNP4B are discussed and used.

April 14-18 Class arranged by Enrico Sartori, OECD/NEA Paris, France.

Contact sartori@nea.fr for information.

May 13-16 Advanced MCNP Topics Introductory class experience is required.

Topics: geometry, sources, tallies, physics, variance reduction, and other topics of specialized interest.

June 10-13 Introduction to MCNP
June 17-20 Introduction to DANTSYS New or novice users who have little experience in solving deterministic transport problems.

Goal is to use codes efficiently and to obtain reliable solutions to criticality, shielding, and source-driven problems.

July 14-18 Criticality Calculations with MCNP Emphasis on setting up accurate problem representations with advanced MCNP geometries. Criticality output features of MCNP4B will be presented. The MCNP criticality primer is featured, using progressively more advanced example problems.
September Class arranged by Enrico Sartori, OECD/NEA Paris, France. Contact sartori@nea.fr for information.
October Class arranged by Tadakazu Suzuki, RIST, Japan.

Contact tadakazu@hero.tokai.jaeri.go.jp for information.

Classes are limited to 20 participants and are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment is not obtained. Course fees range from $1800 - $2100, with a $300 discount for early registration. Course fees are refundable up to two weeks before class. For further information and registration, contact Judi Briesmeister, jfb@lanl.gov or 505-667-7277.
